N.B Pronounced "pesscod", so nothing to do with the vegetable so" No peas please Louise." Little bit of local knowledge there so if you do not want to sound like a stranger always say "going up to pesscod street"
One of the oldest streets in Windsor it runs from Castle Hill down through the town. The name apparently from the 13th Century as Pescroftstrate. It was once a major route out of town towards the South and West.
The street today is fine and wide with interesting alleyways leading off. It has been the subject of one of those controversial pedestrianisation schemes whose object seems to be to turn every town into a lookalike of every other town. Ironically because there is no longer the traditional pavement and tarmac road with gutter on either side of it there seems to be more of a danger of getting knocked down by one of the many trade vehicles which still has to offload. So watch out. And now water has to run down the centre of the street.
Anyway the planners have not managed to knock the character out of the street, there are many fine buildings and the usual multiple shops fit in well. They are all there, Marks and Spencer, Woolworths, Boots etc. There is also a department store of the "Are You Being Served" variety . Its called Daniels. It boasts a toy department as big as a football pitch. Which it is. Unfortunately the very size makes it difficult to find the footballs.

Carry on across the lights to St Leonard's Road
